Lots of good reasons:

1. It's fun and creative.

2. Search engines like them because they provide fresh content. For a new site they may even 'index' the blog first.

3. Site visitors and your clients like them because it gives then something new to read and they can add useful information in their comments.

4. They are either free or very low cost to set up and after that anybody can update them from a browser based admin area.

5. In a blog you can market a product or service, provide helpful information, and even present yourself as an expert (how am I doing on that one?).

I can hear you say 'but it will take too long'. Maybe. However, you can write long detailed posts or you can write quick comments which can be equally effective. It is your choice.
